JACQUELINE McNamara (You Say, Wednesday, October 1) describes the Northwick as being part of Worcester's great history.
This may be debatable, but her claim that it is magical suggests that she needs to take another look at it.
The view that the locals should put up with disturbance because their homes were built later is nonsense.
Most properties in the immediate vicinity pre-date the Northwick and the newer ones were built at a time when the use of the building was not a problem.
Her reference to Northwick Road is confusing, since this is some distance away from the Northwick's location. Jacqueline McNamara is also mistaken in claiming that the Northwick was built as a music hall. It was built and operated for many years as a cinema and the Mayor made it clear from the outset that he would be happy to see it restored to its original use.
He and others are rightly concerned lest it should once again become a source of aggravation and distress to local people, as its use for live music in the centre of a residential area led to disturbed nights and acts of anti-social behaviour.
Also important is that it should not be permitted to continue as a steadily deteriorating eyesore.
