I HOPE I can be forgiven for thinking that I was listening to a committed man when the Health Minister Dr John Reid addressed the Labour conference about the NHS.

His aspirations flowed, as did his praise for previous Ministers. Then came his statistics given out as "suppose I said."

Well, he did say in typical New Labour traditional spin that a waiting list for patients that quite recently stood at 21,000 was now down to just 37 people.

He also said don't ask the doctors and those who work in the health service or the unions, just ask the people.

Well ask me, Dr Reid. Ask me why my appointment for pain relief injections that I rely on for my mobility has gone from six months to 18 months.

Ask the people why in Worcester patients are left on trolleys for hours... and ask the people why local doctors now and again have to stop referring patients to the Worcestershire Hospital.
