PETER Harris is celebrating after being given a prestigious award for his dedicated and outstanding service to a charity in Worcester.

Mr Harris, from Bow Hill, Callow End, Worcester, has been a volunteer for St John Ambulance in the city for 35 years.

To honour his long service and dedication, Mr Harris was invested on Thursday as a member of the Order of St John at a special ceremony held in the historic Grand Priory Church, Clerkenwell, London.

At the service he was granted the title of Officer Brother and presented with the Insignia by the Prior of the Priory of England and the Islands, the Right Honourable Lord Slynn of Hadley.

The Lord said: "Mr Harris is being honoured at the investiture ceremony in recognition of his dedicated and exceptional voluntary service in the Order's charitable foundations and it is much deserved."

Mr Harris' award was approved by Her Majesty The Queen, who is Sovereign Head of the Order of St John.
