Tenbury United 1 Bewdley Town 4

UNITED once again made it difficult for themselves when they gifted their West Midlands League Division 1 South title chasing opponents a first minute goal.

From the kick-off Bewdley floated a high ball into the heart of the home defence where indecision between defenders allowed the visiting striker to nip and slide the ball past a surprised Byron Davies.

Bewdley added a second when a slick build-up from the back opened up the home defence for their striker to race through and bag his second goal.

This proved to be a wake up call for United and Ryan Morris tormented the Bewdley defence with a series of probing runs, eventually scoring when he raced on to a through ball and hit the target with a first-time volley from the edge of the box.

United continued to press for an equaliser and Graham Cald-icott pulled a ball back from the by-line only to see his narrow-angled chip beat the goalkeeper but rebound to safety off the bar.

Sloppy defence again cost Tenbury dear when a speculative long ball into the home box was not cleared, allowing Bewdley to snatch an important third goal just before the break.

United reorganised with Ashley Botwood dropping back and he soon prompted several promising attacks on the visitors goal.

Unfortunately United could not find the final last touch and several chances went begging.

With time running out Stuart Wilson was adjudged to have infringed in a tussle on the edge of the box and the referee awarded a controversial penalty which the visitors converted to make the game safe.
