Because of the unusually high rents which the poor have to pay in Malvern for cottages, those in receipt of out-door relief are to be given an extra allowance - 6d or so - during the winter months. The Guardians seemed surprised to learn that rents were higher in Malvern than in other towns, but it is so, and the poor are not the only sufferers in this respect. A house worth £35 a year in Worcester would command £50 in Malvern, and it is not easy to understand why there should be so great a difference. Malvern News, October 10, 1903.

Malvern General Hospital has been closed to in-patients because of a work-to-rule by hospital maintenance supervisors. Several patients from the two male and female wards have been discharged and three others - including two pensioners - were transferred to hospitals in Worcester on Monday. The closure has been caused by the shortage of linen supplies throughout the district.
