THE dedication of the new Church of the Ascension in Malvern Link was reported in the Malvern News a century ago.
"The population of the upper part of the parish of Malvern Link has increased very much in the last ten years and the necessity for adequately grappling with the spiritual needs of those living in the Newtown, Belmont and Quest Hills districts has long been a source of anxiety to the vicar of St Matthias and his colleagues.
"The problem has been solved by the erection of a church at the junction of the Albert Park and Newtown Roads, giving accommodation for a congregation of 400.
"This splendid gift to the parish has been made by Mrs Livingstone, who has erected the church in memory of her husband, Archdeacon Livingstone, who died here rather less than a year ago."
The cost of the church was not revealed, but it cannot have been less than £10,000, the report speculated.
