MALVERN Hills District Council has warned retailers to be on the lookout for bogus council cheques.
Several attempts have been made to use the cheques, as reported in the Malvern Gazette in August, when fake cheques worth £60,000 were intercepted by the district council's bank, Natwest.
Businesses are advised to take special care where a cheque concerning a third party is involved or if the circumstances are unusual.
Tom Wells, leader of the council, said: "We're working with the banks and the police to identify potential fraudsters. However, we need retailers and businesses to be alert and be on the lookout for any cheques or activities they consider suspicious."
