IN the September 26 edition of the Malvern Gazette I read an article headlined 'No decision yet on tyre building'.
I was infuriated by the remarks of Coun Roger Hall Jones regarding the proposed development. He commented that the "building was not comparable to nearby Waitrose" and his suggestion that "a tyre depot was not the kind of sight befitting a town centre" and "to revitalise the town centre you have to have nice things for people to see."
May I take this opportunity to remind the councillor that Millers Tyres Malvern has been in the same position for over 40 years, well before Waitrose graced Malvern, the tyre depot is in keeping with other buildings in Edith Walk, unlike some and, finally, that "to revitalise the town centre you have to have nice things for people to see". Does he suggest more statues and hanging baskets perhaps?
It is a credit to the owners that the business is still thriving and is prepared to rebuild the current crumbling building and continue to serve the visitors to the town centre.
After 40 years' continuous trading they must be doing something right.
