A NEW hotel, tyre depot, Malvern Hills Science Park and a needle exchange are all up for discussion at a meeting next week.

Malvern Hills District Council's southern area planning sub-committee will be discussing key developments at Priory Lodge Hall, Avenue Road on Wednesday.

They include the construction of a new hotel and spa in Townsend Way, at the junction with Grovewood Road. Outline consent was given last year and planners have recommend full approval, on condition the applicant pays towards cyclepath expansion and the provision of a toucan crossing.

The demolition and reconstruction of Miller Tyre Services in Great Malvern is also recommended for approval.

Last month, members deferred a decision so the applicants could be asked whether they would consider moving prior to a proposed redevelopment of the town centre. Millers indicated that they would not be willing to do so, as no firm redevelopment plans have been laid down.

Laurel Developments Ltd wants to demolish 56 Albert Park Road and replace the building with seven flats. Nearby residents are worried about the development's size and the lack of parking. Planners have recommend approval.

Malvern Hills Science Park's new building is back on the agenda after a decision was deferred last month. Members wanted to know more about the traffic implications of the two and three-storey building for office space and laboratories. Officers have recommend approval.

A plan by the Substance Abuse Team for a drug counselling centre and needle exchange at 12 Priory Road follows the rejection of a similar application for Church Street earlier in the year. Officers have recommended approval, despite objections to a drug centre near the Splash, which is used by families and young children.
