ASPIRING pop star Tamsin Vaughan will be singing for survival and a place in the final 10 of this year's Pop Idol competition live on TV.

And students at her old performing arts school, Harlequin Stage School at Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Centre, are urging everyone to get voting.

Tamsin, originally from Pershore, won through to the final 50 of the competition to find the nation's next pop star and is in the last group of 10 fighting for the last two spaces in the finals.

Sarah Thompson, who has been Tamsin's friend for 10 years, now teaches at Harlequin Stage School and is urging as many people as possible to vote tomorrow.

But as Tamsin makes her final preparations for the big day, there has been a bump in the road.

"I spoke to Tamsin recently and she was a bit stressed," said Sarah from St John's.

"Last Saturday Kim sang Son of a Preacher Man, which was the song Tamsin was going to sing.

"I suppose that's the problem with going last."

Contestant Kim, a 23 year-old from Grimsby, got through to the final 10 with her performance and now Tamsin is considering singing I Need a Hero by Bonnie Tyler.

Saturday night will be the first time Tamsin will have appeared on the terrestrial television version, but she has already featured on ITV2's behind the scenes coverage, Pop Idol Extra.

But the 23-year-old is coping with the pressure thanks to her experience of appearing in a fly-on-the-wall documentary two years ago for Sky, called Warehouse.

Despite the high standard set by previous contestants Sarah is confident Tamsin will make it through.

"I've got great confidence in her, and I am sure she will pull it off," she said.
