KHALSA 2 WORCESTER 7

WORCESTER got their Midlands Premier League campaign off to a fine start with a comprehensive victory over Warwick-based Khalsa.

The game started at a reasonable pace with both sides cancelling each other out for the opening minutes.

But after ten minutes the visitors broke away and an excellent ball from recent signing Dan Fox reached England U16 star Lee Irish who hammered the ball into the bottom corner.

Worcester began to exert more pressure and a foul on Chris Adams saw the umpire play an excellent advantage with Jon Sprague able to pick up the loose ball and provide a pass for Simon Miles to score with a fantastic reverse stick shot.

From the re-start Khalsa pressed into their opponents half and a rash tackle from Sprague resulted in a free hit which provided the platform for an instant reply.

After half time Worcester really began to dominate and with Khalsa being reduced to 10 men, they pressed home the numerical advantage and further goals came from Adams, James Wright, Adam Pusey, Miles and Fox, before Khalsa got a second from a short corner, with Charlie Wright misjudging a pacey ball on the line.

Worcester play Harborne at 2.30pm on Saturday at Nunnery Wood.

They doubled their lead early in the second half through Simon Tinley.

Belper pulled a goal back with a fine finish to bring themselves back into the game, but Worcester held on.

WORCESTER 5ths 4 NUNEATON 1

Worcester found it hard to break through a tough and established def-ence. Phil Jones and Andy Hall moved the ball down the right flank which ended with Jones scoring after the other attempts were saved and blocked.

The score was 1-0 at half time and with one minute into the second half Jones set up Matt Wilson to bang home the second.

The third came from Hall who netted his first goal for three years after being away. Nuneaton managed a goal before Tim Lamont-Smith completed the scoring for Worcester.

WORCESTER 6ths 1 KINGS

HEATH PICKWICK 4

The 10 men of Worcester made a bright start and were 1-0 after five minutes.

Kings Heath picked up their game mid-way through the first half and started to make the extra man count by applying pressure and managed to equalise.

A series of short corners followed for Pickwick with them taking the lead in the tenth minute.

Early on in the second half they went 3-1 up from another short corner.

Worcester then began to play better, but could not find the breakthrough with their opponents finishing the scoring from a breakaway goal.

WORCESTER BADGERS 0

STOURPORT BLUES 0

Worcester came away with a creditable draw.

Both sides were well disciplined and scoring opportunities were few and far between for both sides.

Worcester's best opportunity fell to Andrew Parnham who struck his shot wide when well placed. Both sides played good hockey with the ball moving quickly from end to end and a draw was a fair reflection of the game.
