KIDDERMINSTER Harriers Ladies are celebrating their first West Midlands League Premier Division win of the season.

They defeated Romulus 5-4 on Sunday but were given a late scare with two goals from their opponents in the final five minutes.

Romulus went ahead in the 20th minute through C Meddings from 18 yards but Harriers were level by half-time.

Louise Holmes grabbed the equaliser from the penalty spot after Sue Stokes was fouled.

In the second half, Romulus forged ahead again with keeper Rachel Baldwin given little chance by H Bennett's 25-yard free-kick.

But again Holmes provided the leveller and Harriers took the lead for the first time on 62 minutes.

It was a fine individual goal by skipper Julie Freeman who beat three players before slotting the ball home at the near post.

Vicky Roberts added another seven minutes later and Lisa Stokes fired in a crucial fifth with an unstoppable back-post shot via the upright following Sam Rogers' cross on 77 minutes.

P Samuels and L Hazel scored for Romulus in the dying minutes but Harriers hung on for three vital points.

Fixture, Sunday: Rushall Olympic v Kidderminster Harriers Ladies (players to meet at Aggborough at 11.45am).
