HOCKEY: Vicky Whitehouse, Katie Clowes and Melissa Kennedy gave Stourport Ladies the best of starts to their Worcestershire League Division One season with a 3-2 victory over hosts Redditch.

Redditch scored against the run of play on 12 minutes but Stourport were quickly level.

Kennedy rounded a defender inside the D and saw her shot rebound to the waiting Whitehouse who hit the backboard at the far corner.

Stourport pushed forward with keeper Sarah Cranton only forced into one first-half save and increased their lead when Clowes fired a pass from Fran Long into the top of the net.

They added an early third in the second half when Alison Baron's run and pass was finished off by player-of-the-match Kennedy.

Redditch reduced the deficit with 15 minutes left but debutant, left-back Claire Burrows, helped prevent the home side finding an equaliser.

The seconds built on good friendly form to dominate their opening Division Two match.

Karen McIntyre hammered home the opener on 12 minutes and keeper Charlotte Manley saved a penalty flick before the interval.

After the break, Teri Baron converted a pass from Jess Trundle and Emily McCoy eventually grabbed the third after sharp passing.

Charlotte Jones added a second before the break and then Stourport made the most of their own attacks, despite Worcester pressure.

Goals were added by Georgina Burns, Kim Whitehouse and Alex Totney.
