Droitwich 4, Evesham 4

EVESHAM staged a remarkable fightback to score three times in the last five minutes to earn a point from their opening Coac-hing Solutions West Midlands League match.

The visitors produced, for the most part, a very poor performance. Everything they tried seemed to go wrong and, at 4-1 down in the dying minutes, it was only five minutes of passion that allowed their true potential to surface.

A rather strange umpiring decision allowed Droitwich a short corner from which they got off the mark.

Evesham now moved Seb Seneque into a three-man midfield but they continued to squander possession and chances until Simon Chatterley hit home from 16 yards before Droitwich once again took advantage of another poor decision to regain the lead.

In the second half, Evesham's lack of running allowed Droitwich to score twice more and the game looked over.

However, from a short corner, Jamie Dodgson scrambled the ball over the line from short-range and Evesham sniffed an unlikely comeback.

Seneque skilfully chipped the keeper in the last minute and, as Droitwich tried to waste time, the umpires added on an extra minute.

Martin Husbands received a through pass from Neil Sollis and then found Chatterley on the edge of the area.

His shot from a tight angle gave the keeper no chance and Evesham had gained an unlikely point.

They will be hoping to show their true colours on Saturday against Barlaston at Evesham High School (1.30 pm).

The club's junior girls recorded an impressive 5-0 win over Bretforton on Sunday.

Goals from Jess Wilcox and Emma Barker gave Evesham a 2-0 interval lead and only fine goalkeeping kept down the final margin of victory.

However, the last line of defence was helpless to prevent Barker completing her hat-trick and Wilcox adding a fifth.
