OUT of the total population in Worcester, I would be surprised if 25 per cent could remember the Lychgate.
Two generations have come along since it was demolished in 1965. For visitors to the city, the Lychgate name will be meaningless. Tourists asking the whereabouts of the Lychgate area might find many of our locals may not be too sure just where to send them.
One of our greatest city assets was lost forever because of legalised vandalism in 1965. We have to let go of the past. To new generations and tourists the name Cathedral Plaza sits nicely in the area.
