PIANIST Mike Elden has been honoured for his 21 years service to an amateur dramatic society.
Mr Elden, of Rainbow Hill, Worcester, has been awarded a National Operatic and Dramatic Association commendation for his years of dedication and commitment.
The cast of Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society took time out from rehearsals for their latest show, Kiss Me Kate, to pay tribute to their pianist with the commendation and to thank him for all his help.
Mr Elden, pianist, organist and freelance accompanist, has played in the orchestra at WODS' shows for 21 years and, since 1996, has been the society's rehearsal pianist.
"I enjoy playing for productions such as this, but I was really surprised to receive the award," said Mr Elden, who is also organist at St Barnabas Church, Rainbow Hill.
Accompanist
He has been playing the piano since the age of four and studied at the Royal College of Music.
He spent 22 years in full-time education, ending up as head of department in a Shropshire school.
He is accompanist for Kidderminster Choral Society and Wyre Forest Young Voices, as well as playing for various dance schools.
Gladys Blackler, NODA award administrator for the Midlands, said this was only the second time that WODS had presented such a commendation but it was felt the quality of service given by Mr Elden made him a very worthy recipient of the honour.
Kiss Me Kate opens at The Festival Theatre, Malvern, on Tuesday, October 14, when Mr Elden will once again be at the keyboard.
