STAFF and pupils at a Worcestershire school got their hands sticky yesterday while tucking into a veritable feast of jam tarts to celebrate its 127th birthday.
Ombersley Endowed First School, in Ombersley, was founded on October 6, 1876 and, since its 125th birthday, the school has named the date "Founder's Day".
This year, the school's pupils and teachers were treated to a batch of 127 red jam tarts - the colour of the school's uniform, made by one of the children's fathers.
Each year pupils also wear a red flower to commemorate the anniversary.
The school will have extra reason to celebrate next February when building work is expected to have finished on its new library, offices, staff-room and entrance.
"It went very well and it's significant at the moment because we're having building work done to change the school," said headteacher Gill Nixon.
