Bretforton 3,

Bath Buccaneers 3

BRETFORTON made a promising start to their opening league match as they enjoyed the majority of possession in the opening 15 minutes.

There was some good build-up play from the new-look midfield as Sophie Corbett, Lisa Workman and Blanche Surman all combined well to create some good attacking moves.

Deb Slatter had a number of shots blocked by the keeper, while Workman was twice denied by a post.

Bath, though, then came back into the game and two attacks both resulted in goals.

This only served to spur on the hosts and Slatter managed to get one back following a goalmouth scramble.

Workman then made it 2-2 following more precise midfield play and, ten minutes into the second half, Slatter picked up the ball from halfway line. She embarked on a solo run to round the defence before sidestepping the keeper for 3-2.

Bath again came back strongly but the defence stood firm until three minutes from time when an equaliser was conceded.

Bretforton II 1, Gloucester II 3

THE second string took time to settle and were indebted to a string of fine early stops from Fiona Baldelli.

The visitors were in the ascendancy but it was Bret-forton who struck first when Amy Trotman slipped the ball past the goalkeeper.

Pressure continued on the home defence that finally cracked as Gloucester fired in three second half goals to take the Severn League first division points.

Bernice Amphlett was named player of the match at the end of a contest sponsored by Davies Murray-White Solicitors.

It's Cheltenham Civil Service at Dean Close School on Saturday.
