ALEXANDRA Hospital staff had plenty of hands-on experience during a hand hygiene awareness week recently.
The week, run by the Infection Control Team at the hospital, asked patients, staff and visitors how clean their hands were and quizzed them on how much they knew about infection control procedures.
Heather Gentry, senior infection control nurse, said: "All staff know the importance of hand-hygiene to protect patients from infection but washing hands between every patient contact may not be achieved."
Dr Chris Catchpole, lead infection control officer for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "We hope that by presenting the message about the importance of hand hygiene in an innovative way, we will achieve a high level of awareness in the hospital and among the public - which will help reduce the risk of infection."
