BIG-hearted employees got themselves into a "hair-shaving" experience to raise cash for a good cause.

Four workmates from Hatt Kitchens, in Hartlebury, either lost their locks or had their manes doused with fluorescent dye to raise £800 for Leukaemia CARE.

And every worker at the factory on Hartlebury Trading Estate strained their necks to see long-haired Pete McConville given the chop.

"Everyone came out to watch - the swines!" said Mr McConville, 37.

"My son is 16 and has never seen me with short hair. I needed some convincing and I was very nervous when they came to cut it off.

"I couldn't look in the mirror straight away but I actually quite like it now, I don't think I will grow it back."

Andy Fletcher, production director at the firm, had less to lose in the first place - so opted for a bright red makeover.

He said: "It had to be permanently dyed - otherwise they wouldn't have let me do it!

"I have had a few strange looks from suppliers who came to see me, but I'm glad we helped to raise so much."

The scissors session was part of a massive nationwide drive to set the record for the biggest head shave in the UK - the results of which have yet to be announced.

A spokesman for Leukaemia CARE said: "The event provides an opportunity to show empathy to those patients who lose their hair as a side-effect of potentially life-saving medical treatment."
