ORGANISERS are preparing for the annual sponsored ride and walk in aid of the Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust, the biggest single fundraising event in the county.
Dozens of churches across the Cotswolds are participating in the event on Saturday, September 13.
Last year the sponsored ride and walk raised more than £43,000, which was split between the trust and individual churches chosen by participants.
Prizes were awarded to those who raised the most for their age group --the oldest participant, aged 92, raised more than £1,100.
This year more prizes have been donated for those who raise the most money. The under 16s can win a £50 prize while the 16-65s can win the John Cannan trophy. There is also a prize for senior citizens in the form of a silver salver, as well as a silver shield for the group that raises the most money.
Chairman of the Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust, Mr Jamie Eykyn, said: "Last year's ride was a magnificent effort by all those who took part or sponsored participants and we are hoping for even better this year". The Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust is the single largest grant-giving body in the county and last year it granted nearly £100,000 to
preserve churches for future generations.
