SHIPSTON man Peter Cook wants to encourage as many people as possible to take the plunge for Cancer Research UK.
Dressed as William Shakespeare, Peter recently set an example by abseiling 50ft down The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford.
He said he hopes other brave volunteers will follow his lead later this month to help raise £20,000 for the charity.
His mother-in-law, Doreen Whiting, died from a brain tumour in 1999, after a seven-month illness.
"We experienced first-hand the whole array of problems and issues concerning care, medication and treatment," he said. "It affects the whole family and takes over your life
without any respite.
"There have since been other friends and colleagues who have suffered from cancer some who have recovered and some who have not.
"If dressing up as William Shakespeare and having some fun encourages anyone else to take part and raises more money for Cancer Research UK then I am happy."
Peter is no stranger to the William Shakespeare costume. In April this year he completed the Shakespeare Marathon dressed as The Bard.
The sponsored abseil on Sunday, September 28, is being organised by Cancer Research UK to raise vital funds to support their research into the causes, prevention, treatment
and cure for cancer. For more information call Sue Dunlop on 0121 359 5676.
