FOUR CCTV cameras could be installed in Broadway if Wychavon District Council can find the cash. Admin and finance officer Nigel Jancey, from Wychavon, spelled out the plans to Broadway parish councillors at a meeting last Thursday.

Three sites were earmarked in the High Street - one at the Leamington Road junction, one half way down, and one by the war memorial.

The fourth could be installed in Leamington Road near St Mary's School and overlooking the car park. Mr Jancey said investigations and consultations were already under way and a bid for the cameras would go into the council's budget for next year.

He said: "The project would have to take its chances with all the other schemes being bid for but, hopefully, if all goes well the cameras could go up next year."

Chairman of the parish council, David Folkes said: "We are very much in favour of the cameras.

"We have had numerous breakins in the village lately and we think CCTV cameras may be the

answer.

"The parish council is contributing £2,000 to the project and we hope the village traders association will also contribute."

Trader Nigel Roberts, of Treasure Trove gift shop, was sceptical, however.

"Cameras won't stop ram raiders," he said.

"Those who have burgled our shop have been heavily masked."
