WORCESTERSHIRE off-spinner Gar-eth Batty has described his call-up into England's tour parties to travel to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka this winter as 'a dream come true'.

The 25-year-old is in both the Test and one-day squads for the tour which starts on October 8 and ends on December 23.

His New Road team-mate Vikram Solanki is in the one-day squad but there is no place in either party for County paceman Kabir Ali.

He misses out after making his Test debut for England last month against South Africa at Headingley.

Batty, however, is delighted with his call-up after failing to make the cut when he was included in the squads for the Trent Bridge and Oval Tests against the Proteas.

He said: "It was a bit of a surprise but obviously with getting a couple of nods earlier in the summer to be in the squad you know you're in their thinking. It's brilliant -- it's a dream come true.

"I'm pretty confident in my ability and I'll be going out there and backing myself if I do get a go. I know the situation in Sri Lanka, the wickets and the conditions, so I hope I'm reasonably well prepared for it to go okay."

Batty made two one-day appearances for England against Australia in Sydney and Melbourne last winter, and says: "From a personal point of view they probably didn't go as well as it could have done statistics-wise. But as a learning curve, and as things you need to develop as a cricketer, I got some very big positives out of those.

"But Tests are the ultimate in cricket, nobody would argue about that. I've got to rise to the challenge now and hopefully be good enough."

Two other County players on their travels this winter are batsman Kadeer Ali and spin bowler Shaftab Khalid who are both in England's 14-man Academy squad.

They will undergo training at Loughborough University as well and take part in tours to Malaysia and India.
