SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Wyre Forest athletes were among those successful for Worcestershire at the Special Olympics' National Athletics Championships in Portsmouth.

Twenty-nine club members from the West Midlands took 59 medals out of a possible 68.

Kidderminster's Laura Cramp returned with three golds from running events, while Claire Andrews also managed three medals.

National Championships, golds: Katy Allen-Trew (shot putt), Claire Andrews (relay), Steve Boyce (shot put), Laura Cramp (100 metres, 200m and relay), Sam Cramp (softball throw), Ian Harper (relay).

Silvers: Debbie Allen-Trew (shot putt), Richard Allen-Trew (shot put), Andrews (200m), Boyce (100m), S Cramp (100m), Harper (100m), Martin Jones (100m), Daniel Parker (softball throw).

Bronzes: Caroline Allen-Trew (shot putt and 100m), D Allen-Trew (100m), Andrews (100m), Daniel Cramp (softball throw and 50m), Ellie Jones (softball throw and 50m), M Jones (shot putt).

In a Midlands athletics event in Solihull, there were triple victories for D Allen-Trew, Andrews, Boyce, David Swinbourne and Harper.

Golds: C Allen-Trew (relay), D Allen-Trew (relay, shot putt and 100m), K Allen-Trew (relay), R Allen-Trew (relay), Andrews (relay and 200m), Boyce (gold and 100m), Alex Edwards (softball throw), Jon Fox (long jump), Harper (relay), David Swinbourne (relay).

Silvers: Jack Bradley (50m), Fox (relay), E Jones (50m and softball throw), Swinbourne (shot putt).

Bronzes: C Allen-Trew (100m), R Allen-Trew (100m), Andrews (100m), Bradley (relay), Harper (100m and 200m), M Jones (100m and shot putt), Matthew Jones (relay), Freddie Lowe (50m), Gemma Lowe (50m), Swinbourne (100m).

Four athletes from Wyre Forest were due to compete in a Walsall Special Olympics athletics event at Cannock today.

The group, backed by Pedmore Sporting Club, will be swimming in Reading this weekend.
