MORE than 8,000 district homes went green on Monday when the long-planned kerbside recycling scheme was launched.
a Wyre Forest District Council commercial services portfolio holder Keith Robertson declared the start of the urgently-needed new system a "resounding success" after 90 per cent of the 9,000 homes included in the first phase took part.
a The council has been set tough targets to recycle 10 per cent of its waste by next year and 18 per cent by 2005. A further 10,000 homes will take part in the scheme from November.
a Next week the Shuttle/Times and News will be out on the streets with the binmen to judge how people are dealing with the change, which has seen regular wheelie bin collections cut to fortnightly.
