PARENTS looked on in horror as an 11-year-old girl was in collision with a van, being thrown across its bonnet and hitting its windscreen, outside a school.
The schoolgirl, who has not been named, was left with serious leg injuries after the accident involving a Vauxhall Astra van outside The Chase High School, Malvern. Another girl, whose age is unknown, was left with grazed legs.
Both were attempting to cross Poolbrook Road, outside the school, just before 4pm. It is not known if they attended The Chase.
An ambulance spokeswoman confirmed the 11-year-old was left with major abrasions, cuts to her nose and mouth and an open fracture to her leg.
She was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, where her condition is unknown.
Police at the scene set up roadblocks to redirect traffic away from Poolbrook Road, Watkins Way and Barnards Green Road. The roads were closed for around an hour.
"She had a serious leg injury, a nasty bump to the head and cuts to the nose, mouth and grazes. Her head hit the windscreen," said a police spokeswomen.
"There was another injury to another girl, who had grazing to her legs."
The Chase already has traffic calming measures in place, as part of the Government's Safer Routes to Schools initiative.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 08457 444888.
