SOUTH African Grant Snowball signed off in style in his last game for Cookley against Wyre Forest rivals Stourport in Worcestershire League Division Two.

Stourport settled for a losing draw at Walshes Meadow in the final league fixture as Snowball struck his second score of more than 80 runs in the past two weeks.

The visitors were asked to bat and dodged the showers to total 187-8 with their overseas player slamming 85 and skipper Adam Nicholls adding 42.

Matt Delo, making his Stourport first-team debut, captured two wickets, as did Ian Delo and Bevan Neill.

With both teams safe from relegation after gaining enough points the previous week, Stourport declined a run chase and played out time for the draw.

Neill continued his excellent form with 49 runs and Phil Williams made 31 not out as the town closed on 131-4.

The league campaign has now ended for both sides who will hope for better than a relegation fight next year.

Cookley 187-8, Stourport 131-4.

Stourport seconds suffered a 58-run defeat at Cookley in a rain-reduced 46-over match to leave the villagers sixth in the table.

Ian Goodman (59) was the mainstay of Cookley's 161 all out with three wickets each for Andy Goddard and John Shackleton.

In reply, lowly Stourport's batsmen never really got going against tight bowling from Cookley's opening attack.

The innings disappointingly closed on 103 all out in the 28th over with Mark Guest taking four wickets and the others being shared around.

Cookley 2nds 161, Stourport 2nds 103.

Cookley's annual presentation evening will be on Saturday, September 27, at the village's Bulls Head pub from 8pm.

Chairman Phil Dixon said, however, the event would not take too long.

Dixon said: "We have not got a lot of silverware this season but at least we won the village tug of war!"
