TEACHERS at a Redditch school have had to ferry children home because of severe overcrowding on the buses, it has been revealed.

Pupils at Kingsley College have been left stranded because buses they use have been full up since the start of term last week.

The chaos has led to urgent talks between bus operators, Worcestershire County Council and the school.

Kingsley College headteacher Lesley McGuigan said: "Teachers have had to be on standby to take children home.

''On the first night we had to take 20 children home. The teachers are putting themselves out to do it.

''But I have spoken to the county council and we are hoping to have the situation sorted as soon as possible."

A parent, who did not wish to be named, said: "It's absolutely ridiculous. We live in Webheath so my daughter has to get the bus.

"One day last week she managed to get a bus eventually but it stopped at Headless Cross and she had to get a lift back from one of the mums. It's too far for her to walk, it's not safe and the nights are drawing in."

A county council spokesman said: "We are aware there have been some problems and we are talking with the bus operators and the school with a view to resolving them."
