NARCOTICS cop and family man Nick Tellis is suspended by the police force when a drugs bust goes horribly wrong.
His only way back in is to investigate the mysterious death of another drugs cop Michael Calvess.
Tellis, played by Jason Patric, teams up with Calvess' former partner Henry Oak (Ray Liotta) who will stop at nothing to avenge the death of his long-time friend.
This film is gripping from start to finish and follows Tellis and Oak as they trace the last footsteps of Calvess through the seedy Detroit drugs world.
But it's not one for frail grandmothers as there's lots of violence - especially coming from former Goodfella Ray Liotta - no surprises there then.
The film has a faint resemblance to the odd episode of NYPD Blue but that's not a drawback, in fact the gritty sequences only add to the final effect.
The DVD also includes special features of how the movie was made and a special commentary from writer/director Joe Carnahan.
Badboy rapper Busta Rhymes, obviously trying to break into the movie world following in the footsteps and successes of Eminem (8 Mile) and Queen Latifa (Chicago), also stars as one of the suspected cop killers.
