WHAT a brilliantly made, haunting film this turned out to be.

The mark of a truly good horror is one where certain scenes stay with you long after the film has ended and this certainly has the power to do this.

When a teenage girl is found dead with no apparent reason to explain her sudden and horrific demise, her reporter auntie Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) decides to investigate.

She uncovers three of her niece's friends died at the same time on the same night in weird circumstances, exactly a week after they watched a strange video with flashing and disturbing black and white images.

What unravels from The Ring is a tale of cruelty, insanity and supernatural powers. With more twists and turns then a twisty-turny thing, viewers will find themselves perched on the edge of their seats throughout.

As well as unnerving, this film is also terribly exciting as our heroine fights against unbelievable odds to try to save the life of herself and her young son against a power she cannot even comprehend.

There are some horrific scenes but they are cleverly executed and beautifully disturbing.

The DVD extras are negligible which is a shame because it would have been fascinating to learn more about the making of this excellent film.
