CROWN Close in Bromsgrove was becoming something of a problem for the town council. Many wanted the area to be used simply as an area to relax in, while others, notably the youth of the town, wanted to play football and cricket there. The Messenger commented that the young people could not simply be turfed off unless an alternative playing field could be found for them.

DESPITE the poor weather during the summer, which had interfered with many matches, Bromsgrove Cricket Club had not fared too badly and had enjoyed its best season since 1894. A record 2,610 runs had been scored with E Perkins and the professional Smith each scoring close on 600 each. G Rishworth topped the bowling table having taken 68 wickets in 280 overs.
