FAIRFIELD Villa Ladies began their West Midlands division one south campaign with a last minute 2-1 home defeat to Ross Town Ladies.
With three players making their debut, Fairfield played a controlled first half. Strikers Kaye Mason and player of the match Sarah Lewis had several chances early on but were thwarted by the Ross goalkeeper.
Villa went behind when Kate Welch gave away a penalty before half time and rhe Ross captain hammered the ball home.
Fairfield introduced Laura Brown, back after breaking her leg in May, for the second half. Early pressure was rewarded with Anna Morgan converting from the edge of the area to equalise.
Minutes later Fairfield thought they had taken the lead but Mason was flagged offside.
With the game heading for a draw, a speculative 25-yard shot was totally misjudged by the Fairfield goalkeeper Emma Moore who allowed the ball to run underneath her body and give Ross the winner.
Fairfield entertain Banbury United this Sunday.
