IF there was any reminder needed that justice doesn't always prevail in football it came at Weston last night and at St George's Lane on Saturday.

A less than impressive display against Dorchester ended with us salvaging three points two minutes from time while a very good first half showing with chances galore at Weston produced nothing and then saw us undone by a fluke goal.

Such is football but there's no disguising the fact that in general we wouldn't win any prizes for much of the quality of our football at present but until last night we were managing to grind out the results.

We've been mindful of the fact that we are not playing well and it is something we are attempting to address.

The wins against Dorchester and Hinckley were gratefully received but they were achieved in a manner and fashion that was far from convincing.

In a results business it would be great to put on the same sort of show as we did against Moor Green but that's not always going to happen and we are lacking a little confidence at the moment.

But supporters can rest assured we are certainly looking to improve the standard of play and the introduction of David Foy last night gave us an extra dimension. With David Holmes and Pat Lyons also back in action we have further options to play with.

The departures of Dean Smith, Mitch Counsell and Dan Jones in a short space of time may have raised a few eyebrows but none were forced to leave.

Dan wanted regular football but he was never going to improve the team particularly and, like Mitch, understandably moved on to where he was more likely to feature.

I'm aware that we are a little bit thin on the ground at the back with Barry Woolley and Kevin Halliday out, and of course Paul Carty has a slight problem, but if we need to act to bring someone in as short term cover we will.

All in all it's been an interesting start to the season though far from a spectacle. But on the positive side the fact we can win a couple of games against Hinckley and Dorchester on the back of not playing to our full capacity or potential can be construed as a good thing and perhaps something positive is round the corner.

We're just behind the leaders and there's a platform for us to build on. The ability and capacity to do well is there and I would like to think there is more to come from us.

The fact we've got good players coming back into the equation plus the belief the team can improve bodes well for the future.

Sometimes though in this game you can't win no matter what you do.

If you win you're criticised for the way you win if you play well and lose you getting criticism for not winning the game but that's football!
