JEROME Connor (pictured) hit an unbeaten 113, his highest Saturday score for five years, as Droitwich Spa Cricket Club First XI wrapped up their season with a 46-run win at Eastnor.

Connor became the fifth Spa batsman to pass the ton mark this season, joining Ian Duggan, Paul Bryan, Ian Cottrill and Mike Rogers.

It was victory number ten for Steve Walsh's side, who secured fourth place in Worcestershire County League division one with the result.

Walsh, in his first season in charge, said: "We were more consistent than in previous years and telling contributions came from nine players rather than the three or four in the past."

Spa's first visit to the picturesque Eastnor ground saw them bat first with openers Ian Duggan and Stuart Bryan taking the attack to the hosts with an array of well timed strokes.

Duggan's departure for 48 saw the in-form Connor enter the fray and on a slow low wicket he played deftly to all corners of the ground en route to his century.

Cottrill bludgeoned 38, Bryan finished on 48 and Dave Scott-Walker helped himself to an unbeaten 35 as Spa made their biggest score of the year, 293-3.

In reply, Danny Baker blasted his way to 55 in no time as Eastnor kept up with the run rate.

However, wickets continued to fall and when Karl Goddard snared the dangerous Shalid Ahmed at 130-5 the game was seemingly up.

Eastnor's Kevin Fortey gave the Herefordshire side a glimpse of victory but Goddard struck again and Rogers collected his 35th wicket of the campaign to give Spa a maximum 24 points.

Spa's second XI rounded off their campaign with victory at home to Eastnor, securing the runners-up spot for the second year running.

Last Sunday, both teams lost to Swindon, giving the First XI to fifth place and the Second XI to third.
