BARNT Green Cricket Club First XI need a minor miracle if they are to land their third Birmingham and District Premier League title.

Lyndon Jones' side, champions in 1995 and 1997, go into this Saturday's final league game at Cherry Hill Road knowing only a win will do.

Currently 15 points behind leaders Wellington, Green need to beat second place Halesowen and hope Wellington lose at Moseley. Green defeated already relegated Wolverhampton by six wickets last Saturday.

Skipper Jones said: "We had to win in order to take the league to the last weekend. We've played below par the last two weeks and it was satisfying for us to do well against Wolves.

"We've got to play well again next week against Halesowen and hope it rains or Moseley beat Wellington.

"It's a slim chance but you never know what'll happen. Moseley have shown they can beat anyone on their day."

Whatever happens, Green will still have a shot at silverware 24 hours later.

Jones and his players face Himley in the inaugural Birmingham League Cup final at Cherry Hill Road.

"If things don't go our way on Saturday we'll have another chance to win something on Sunday," Jones added. "It'll be two exciting days of high level cricket."
