WATCH out Tiger Woods...there's a new kid on the block who's already proving he's No.1

Despite only taking up golf five months ago, 14-year-old Richard Meredith has already achieved a lifetime ambition of many players in the sport by sinking a hole in one.

And what's more, it came at Wythall's Fulford Heath Golf Club's notoriously-tricky eighth hole, which stretches some 190 yards.

"I only knew the ball went in when some players on the next green starting jumping up and down cheering," said Meredith who lives in Earlswood, near Tanworth-in-Arden. "It was an unbelievable feeling and something I had never dreamt of doing."

Richard, who has already won the club's junior stableford competition by 43 points, now has his sights set firmly on becoming a golf pro.

"It's really what I want to do," added Richard who is already playing off a 29 handicap and achieved his amazing feat with a seven wood from the tee. "I used to play tennis but now I really love golf."

Fulford's resident professional Richard Dunbar, who coached the youngster earlier this year, added: "What he did was a great achievement for someone so young and who hasn't been playing golf for very long. What's more, he did it on the eighth which is a very long, tough hole believe me!"
