BROMSGROVE Rovers have been unsuccessful in a bid to tempt former favourite Reckey Carter back to the Victoria Ground.

Rovers made a seven-day approach for the prolific Barnt Green Spartak striker, part of Rovers' Conference side, last Saturday. The bid failed as Carter had signed a three-year deal with Spartak 24 hours earlier.

Rovers boss George Rooney is trying to patch up his forward line with on-loan Mark Jones sidelined with a knee injury and Sam Bowen suspended.

He said: "He (Carter) is a proven goalscorer at the highest level of non-league football and we still thought at 31-years-old he was good enough to step back. We have been looking around for front players for quite some time."

Carter has hit nine goals in seven games in Spartak's unbeaten start to their Midland Combination division one campaign.
