A PARROT that whistles telephone ring tones has been spotted throughout Worcester after disappearing from its home.

Alli, a 14-month-old African grey parrot, flew out of an open window at its house in Bath Road last Monday.

Iftakhar Ahmed bought the parrot as a Christmas present last year for his eight-year-old nephew Aqaab Hussain, who lives in the same house as him.

Mr Ahmed appeared in the Evening News last Tuesday appealing for anyone who had seen his feathered friend to ring him and is offering £100 reward for the safe return of the pet.

Since the article, Mr Ahmed, aged 31, has received around eight phone calls from the public who believe they have spotted Alli.

He raced over to St Wulstan's Crescent, Worcester city centre, on Thursday evening after receiving one of the phone calls.

"Alli was sitting in a tree eating berries," he said.

"He looked fine and whistled back to me three or four times before flying away."

The parrot, which is grey with a red tail, has also been spotted in Astwood Cemetery and Bath Road.

Mr Ahmed will be better armed for the next sighting.

He is planning to use a 35ft rod with a net to try to catch his feathered friend.
