FRIDGES dumped on land off Pershore Lane between Spetchley and Bredicot, near Worcester, are creating an eyesore for passing motorists.

But the fridges have been dumped on private land, which ties the hands of Wychavon District Council.

"We respond to reports of fridges which are dumped on public land and clear them away within 24 hours," said a council spokeswoman.

But if the fridges are on private land, as in this case, the council has no power to force them to be removed.

Owners of fridges can take them to sites such as Hallow Road and Bilford Road tips, in Worcester, or pay for them to be removed.

However, Mike Harrison, head of operational services at Worcester City Council, warned residents to be aware of flytippers posing as legitimate organisations.

"There is no such thing as a cheap deal," said Mr Harrison.
