SMALL start-up businesses on a Kempsey farm would be welcomed by the parish council, but an application for light industry, storage and distribution firms rang alarm bells with members.
Previous problems with large articulated lorries using former farm buildings at Brookend Lane and Bestmans Lane made members wary of a new application for Open Barn Farm, off the A38 from Kempsey to Worcester.
"We have allowed change of use in other farm situations where we thought we would get start-up businesses ideal for the area, only to get lorries going backwards and forwards at two and three o'clock in the morning," said Ray Ellis.
But Ann Hart said Open Barn Farm was not on a narrow country lane like the others. It was on a private road off the A38.
"This is the only suitable farm in the whole of our area," said Mikki Howes-Jones.
Planning chairman David Harrison said there were worries about articulated lorries turning into Open Barn Farm from the A38 and there was also a concern about maintaining the "green corridor" between Worcester and Kempsey.
