WORCESTER motorists faced traffic chaos this morning as the city was hit by two accidents.

Worcester police were first called to reports of a horsebox blocking two lanes of the carriageway on the A4440 in St Peter's, Worcester, at 7.30am.

The horsebox was being towed by a red Land Rover and had overturned.

The driver of the Land Rover escaped injured and two cows inside the horsebox were also uninjured and were taken away from the scene in another vehicle.

The road was partially blocked until 8.15am and police diverted traffic down London Road.

"I have never seen traffic tailed back as much as I did this morning out of Worcester," said motorist Mark Chandler who travels into Worcester daily from Wolverhampton and was held up in traffic for 20 minutes.

"It was complete chaos and there was a lot of frustrated motorists."

Elsewhere, traffic was held up on Worcester's northern link road after a pallet fell from the back of a vehicle.

Police were alerted to the incident, on the A449 between junction six of the M5 and the Claines island after the Blackpole roundabout, at 8.19am and the road was cleared by 8.35am.

A police spokesman said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who knows how the pallets got onto the road. Anyone with information should call 08457 444 888 and quote 69S/100903."
