JOHN Hinton accused me of moralising on an issue in which I was not personally involved (You Say, August 28).
Is it possible that Mr Hinton never comments or expresses an opinion on anything that is outside his own experience?
It's a ridiculous notion, because I don't have to put my finger in the fire to know that it burns.
My opinion on the subject of war - which is based on the Christian teaching - is that self-defence can be justified but retaliatory or pre-emptive action can never be morally justified.
His letter reflected on the horrors of the Second World War prisoners-of-war in south-east Asia. But then Jesus did warn us that he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword.
