WORRIES about the future expansion of Kempsey have been raised by a document listing possible development sites in the Malvern Hills district.

The document, apparently prepared as part of the Local Plan that is due to be published in November, listed six sites in Kempsey that had been earmarked by developers.

Linda Jenkins, representing Brookend Lane Residents' Association, drew it to the attention of Kempsey Parish Council.

"We are not against development, but we think it should be considered on behalf of the whole village," she said.

Residents also wondered what had been in previous reports, as the document was labelled Report Three.

Chairman Joy Clee said she had inquired whether it was too late to "tighten the village envelope" and had been advised that there would be an opportunity to make representations once the Local Plan was published.

District councillor Mike Biddle said he was utterly opposed to any expansion of Kempsey and was in a position to make his views known to the planning department.

"Anyone can make representations at any time, but you can't oppose something until you know what is being proposed," he said.

It was pointed out that the county structure plan had already confirmed the importance of the green corridor between Kempsey and Worcester.

A Kempsey Parish Plan could identify areas where the parish could grow, but so far no one had come forward to help with work on it.
