A GROUP set up to promote racial and religious harmony in Worcester will hold regular meetings after a successful launch.

The One World Rainbow Social Group was set up as a result of the great response to the Let's Get Together meeting, which was organised by Jean Kennedy in May.

It will meet on the second Tuesday of each month, at the at the Fairfield Centre on the grounds of Elbury Mount School, in Fairfield Close.

Mrs Kennedy said she organised the first meeting, which was due to be held this morning, with the aim of providing an informal setting for the newly arrived overseas medical staff working at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and other isolated ethnic minorities in the city.

"The launch in May was a huge success thanks to everyone who came along and to volunteers who made our tea and organised the room," said Mrs Kennedy.

"The new social will be on the same lines as Let's Get Together, with everyone bringing food from their own culture and wearing national dress.

"If anyone can entertain with songs, dance or music that would be great.

"I would really appreciate volunteers to help on the day of the social - to make and serve tea, to be responsible for the bouncy castle and to decorate the venue."

Mrs Kennedy said the Fairfield centre was an ideal venue as it is a brand new adult education centre with excellent facilities.

"Here there will be opportunities to access computers, to learn about all kinds of courses on offer, to hear about the work of local agencies as well as to learn about various cultural skills and activities."

She said the group could only work with the support of the public.

"If people need transport to the venue they can let me know.

"It is also possible to arrange for a crche but I need to know in advance if people need this facility."
