A PENSIONER whose car collided with another car, which had braked to avoid hitting a dog, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention.

Eighty-eight-year-old Frank Wiseman, who had a clean driving licence which was renewed earlier this year, was driving along Hanbury Road, Droitwich, on Wednesday, March 12, when the accident happened.

His wife was taken to hospital suffering shock after the collision.

Wiseman pleaded guilty to a charge of driving without due care and attention at Worcester Magistrates Court yesterday.

David Elliott, prosecuting, said Wiseman, of York Avenue, Droitwich, was driving along the road when the driver of a Ford Mondeo overtook him.

Slowed

He said the Mondeo driver approached a 50mph limit and slowed down, at which point a dog ran across the road.

"The driver had to brake instantly but still, unfortunately, hit the dog," he said.

"The vehicle came to a halt but Wiseman was still approaching from behind, not taking in what had happened in front."

The Mondeo driver tried to pull away, but Wiseman's car collided with his, the court heard.

Wiseman, defending himself, said he only drove to Sainsbury's - a three or four mile trip away - and down to the tip, and did not undertake long journeys.

He said his driving licence was renewed in February this year after he filled in a form about his health.

"I was going to the tip and following another car when suddenly he stopped," he said.

"I was surprised the police came to my house a few weeks later and proved I was the cause of my accident."

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until Monday, October 6, so Wiseman could produce a doctor's medical report.
