OPENING paceman Ian Jinks rounded off his own personal league season with an awesome performance to condemn Hereford City to the Worcestershire League Division Three just one season after being promoted.

WORCESTER NOMADS v HEREFORD CITY

Jinks took nine of the 10 wickets as Hereford desperately sought to close the gap on Cookley, the side just above them in the league.

West Indian all-rounder Agard had been brought back to the country to help the Hereford plight, and seemed to have justified the faith, with two spells of useful bowling, producing figures of 5-41.

Nomads had got of to a slow start, but with the help of Austin (20) and Newport (21), left-hand bat Steve Bowman set about the task of building a defendable total. He duly made 84, including seven sixes, and had the Hereford attack reeling under the onslaught.

Credit to the visitors they kept going, and following his demise, and that of Lakin (18), Nomads tail failed to wag to any effect and were dismissed for 208 in the 48th over.

Jinks opened the bowling along with spin bowler Miles Illingworth, and both kept the scoring opportunities to a minimum. Hereford found themselves struggling on 22-3, but a more than useful stand of 63 for the fifth wicket, between Mukler and Agard put the game back in the balance.

Jinks however was having other ideas and persisted with a delightful spell of line and length bowling. A superb piece of stumping by Roger Dixon off Jinks removed the dangerous Mukler and Nomads sniffed the taste of victory.

Hereford needed to chase maximum points, but it was never going to be, needing 57 for victory off the final eight overs Jinks nailed the final wicket, to see Nomads home by 40 runs, and end up with a superb 9-63 from 23.4 overs.
