WORCESTER City left it late against Dorchester Town but stay on top of the Dr Martens Premier Division thanks to substitute Stewart Hadley's 88th minute winner.
Assistant manager Mick Tuohy admitted City were not firing on all cylinders but said five wins out of seven had given them a useful platform.
"Sometimes teams come here to stop us playing and we know we are miles away from playing as well as we can but we've given ourselves a platform to build on," said Tuohy.
"We're not shouting from the roof tops because we are top but I'm pleased that the changes worked for us with Stewart and David Foy giving us better balance," he added.
"I always think we have a chance of getting a late winner, particularly at home, and history showed last season that if we keep believing it can happen."
City are in action at Weston tomorrow night but could get toppled from top spot tonight with second-placed Nuneaton in action at Chelmsford.
