THE Worcestershire Golf Club's A Team continued its winning ways with a four matches to two home win against Evesham.

Captained by former club captain Stuart Bird in the absence of club captain Simon Tinkler the team got off to a resounding start when Stuart, partnered by the consistent Roy Smith, won the opening match two up with one to play.

Two other pairs, Gary Lynes with Carl Bayliss and Mark Read with Colin Lane, also won their matches two and one. The outstanding victory of the day however went to Andy Dunster playing with Dave Jones. Andy and Dave won their match four and three.

In the Hope Invitation Cup, where members play with an invited guest, a large group of golfers enjoyed excellent weather with the course in good condition.

Cup winners were Mark Read and his guest from Droitwich, Roger Crisp, with a Stableford score of 44 points. Mark and Roger had a better back nine hole score than club champion Peter Lupino and guest Roger Jones, from Puckrup Golf Club, who were runners-up with 44 points.

In third place, with 43 points, was Neil Smith playing with his guest from Greg Hall Golf Club, Jeremy Wheeler. Wes Curtis and former course manager Graham Wallace, returned the same score of 43 points to be placed fourth.

In the Mid Week Medal competition, Ian Broom, who won Division Two, returned the best score of the day. Ian returned a net score of 66, six strokes below par and four shots better than Pete Davies who came second with a net 70.

Phil Dance, who was in excellent form to return a net 67, won the Division One competition. Philip was one shot better than Andrew Price and veteran golfer, John Farley, who were placed second and third respectively with scores of net 68.

In the Ladies' August Medal competition, the first four players in Division One all returned net scores of 71 and could only be separated by the count-back system. The winner was Kate Anderson, in second place was former county player Pat Catlin, playing off a handicap of 11, Sally Dare was third and Pauline Belsham fourth.

Division Two was won by Diane Wilde who returned the best net score of the day, a 66. Diane also won the Carrington Cup.

Sally Agnew was second with 68, on the same score as Hazel Cartledge was placed third.

In the Ladies' 12 holes Stableford Competition the runner up was Eileen Hunt with Esme Davy the winner by a clear seven points.

In the Past Captain's Alliance competition the team lead by former captain Jean Coleman and completed by Barbara Evans and Margaret Bellamy proved far too strong for the rest of the field. Jean, Barbara and Margaret returned the excellent Stableford score of 92 points.

Pat Fletcher's team of Joan Haworth and Audrey Emery came second with a score of 87 points. June Jones' team of Jessica Paget and Anne Read were third with a 86 points.
