HAVING has a very successful season in Worcester Sunday League Division Two, Express 88 travelled to Shap Drive, Warndon to begin their Division One campaign.
THE BRIDGE O, EXPRESS 88 2
During a fairly even first half both teams had few chances to take the lead. It was the Express who came closest when a neat turn and shot from Lee Hooper was blocked on the line and cleared away.
The second half began with both teams defending well as each pushed for a goal. Smart defending from Mark White and Stu Summers foiled a number of Bridge attacks.
The Express should have taken the lead after 65 minutes when Dean Henman shot wide from close range.
The game looked to be heading for a goalless draw until the introduction of full back Nick Dauncy who broke the deadlock with a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
This put The Bridge on the back foot and some good play from Hooper and Phil Hunt set up Sean Clarke who finished well from ten yards.
On Sunday, Express 88 are away to Exel Stars & Garter in the Worcester Division One. Players meet 9.30am sharp at the Express Inn.
